personality;
To the everyday student or passer-by, Remus would seem like a shy, studious boy with bad luck and a bad health. He doesn't like to open up to strangers and is more on the insecure side; especially with girls. Most do not know why and think this is just a part of his personality, but the truth is that Remus is afraid of being friends with anybody. The popular mood is certainly against magical creatures like him, and his situation is not exactly getting better since Fenrir Greyback and his pack are on the lose killing and hurting people again. Little do people know, Remus is a heart of a friend if one manages to befriend him, werewolf yes or no. When with the Marauders or Lily Evans, he is a completely different person, happy, fun and relaxed. They are the only ones who know about his lycanthropy and have accepted him the way he are, even decided to help him in his darkest hours. There is nothing he would not do for them, including to die.
Despite staying rather in the background, Remus is quite helpful and would always try to constructively help or advise somebody if they asked. He is a natural talent for teaching and a very bright person; He also had to grow up very fast and learn that the world is unfair, so most of the time he gives good advise.

hair; Light brown hair with a few grey hairs in between; usually falls as it comes because he does not bother to do much to it. Never kept too long.
eyes; Slanted eyes with very bright irises of amber, almost yellow. They might have looked exotic if not for the dark shadows underneath. They are often slightly red, too.
face; Remus inherited the straight pure-blood nose from his father and some other of the regular features those families pass down. But he is usually so tired, pale and often also bruised that he does not look exactly attractive.
body; More on the thin side, but surprisingly strong around new moon. Cannot seem to save any tiny bit of fat, although he eats chocolate all the time. Recently developing some muscles, thanks to aging.
distinguishing features; Remus has scars everywhere. Those you see all the time are on his cheek, eyebrow and lip as well as the backs of his hands; But there are more. Huge ones across his chest and limbs, usually in the shape of long, deep lines. And there is one he particularly hates: a deep bite mark which he shows to nobody in the world.
personal style; Remus wears pretty old clothes. They need to get patched up a lot, too, and are not exactly warm enough for somebody who feels the cold so badly.

family history; The Lupin family is originally a French pureblood line. This explains why John and Remus are lacking relatives in England; there might be more in France, but the last person from their bloodline who was born there was John's father Lestard, who moved to England in his early childhood. Lestard was married to Gwenok Gamp, a pureblood from Scotland.
Emily Lupin was originally named Emily Helle and is a child of English Muggles. The house in Lowestoft which John and Remus live in was originally that of John's parents.
personal history; Remus was born in St Mungo’s hospital, London, on March 10th, 1960. He had not been a planned child, but his parents wanted him as soon as they found out about his mother’s pregnancy, and thus were extremely happy when he was born, a healthy child who was from the first day on rather tranquil and easy to handle. The first three years of his life, Remus enjoyed life in his parent’s flat in London. When Emily started to work again a year after birth, he spent time with both his muggle and magical grandparents. His father’s parents diseased in 1963, leaving the house on the cliff by Lowestoft to their only son. The small family moved in, and while Emily’s parents still took their grandchild during some days a week the financial and overall situation of the family was very good.
John was working in the department for the regulation of magical creatures since he left school a few years before Remus’ birth, and had been put on the trail of Fenrir Greyback. Injuring the werewolf in a duel while trying to arrest him, John became the target of Greyback’s wrath. One early full moon night in winter, the werewolf had waylaid the child in the family’s garden, biting him before anybody could react; he would probably have killed him hadn’t Emily and John fired the strongest curses they could think of at the beast both at the same time. Greyback raced away, but it was too late. His parent’s rushed him to St. Mungo’s, but the healers did not really see a chance for the kid to survive. Some also refused to treat him, until Emily snapped and put up the largest fight of her life to make the head of the curse unit himself treat her son. The treatment was successful, and Remus survived, but the curse remained, leaving the boy with half a life. He was five years old.
Any attempts of healing during Remus’ childhood proved to be futile. His parents even took him abroad, to alternative healers, tried potions and spells; but nothing helped, and the child got so tired of the treatment that his condition started to be worse than in the beginning until Emily and John finally submitted to fate.
Due to his curse, Remus became even quieter than he had been from the start. He had no friends, because almost all of the magical families around the Lupins had turned from them, and going to a muggle school was out of question, despite Remus’ intelligence. The child was taught the basics of elementary and languages by his mother, who had quit her job because she needed to take care of him – her parents were getting old and definitely unable to cope with the ill child. There seemed to be no hope at all that Remus could ever go to Hogwarts, although he quite obviously had the gift of magic. But one year before he was supposed to go, Albus Dumbledore became headmaster, succeeding the conservative Armando Dippet, and offered the Lupins that Remus could go if the right precautions were taken. The time following this announcement proved to be the first truly happy time for the family since the past five, almost six years.
In Hogwarts, Remus found the first true friends of his life in James Potter, Sirius Black and Peter Pettigrew. Not wanting them to turn away from him, he tried to keep his lycanthropy a secret, but because of the monthly disappearing and the injuries he carried out of the shack, the three were not fooled for long and soon pointed him out. In fifth year, they succeeded to become Animagi, doing more for Remus than he could ever have wished for. This was also the year that Lily Evans found out about his illness, and was equally loyal to him despite the curse. She became a close friend of his. Remus was a very virtuous student during his whole school time, because he felt very much in dept with Dumbledore and wanted to prove that he was worthy to go to Hogwarts.
In summer 1975, before Remus returned for year five, his mother died from exhaustion and grief after her parents had died in 1973 and she kept suffering when witnessing Remus’ pain. It was a terrible loss for the family, but John and Remus are very close and somehow manage to take care of each other.

roleplaying sample;Being a prefect of Hogwarts could mean many things. To some it meant power, power over younger students or those of a house which their own had a rivalry going on with. Others used it to serve the Professors, hoping to score better grades than they actually deserved. Some were quite eager to help anybody and anyone; those were usually fifth years, trying to live up to their new responsibility. But to all, it meant having to stay up late once in a while and patrol corridors, check the younger kid’s dorms and ‘guide’ protégés back to their dorms if they found one breaking the curfews. Bad luck for those students who were caught by a moody prefect.
Remus Lupin was usually not a moody kind, but there were certain nights when his muscles were sore, the eyes bloodshot, and the skin even paler than usual. Those were the nights when he would easily snap at younger and older students breaking curfew or rules; didn’t they know that all he wanted to do was going to bed? And that it was practically their fault that prefects had patrolling duties at all? It was not like his usual self, surely not; but he had a valid excuse. Not that he would tell anybody. But it eased his bad consciousness a little when ever he felt like he had been too strict against students, especially first years.
Tonight was not one of those nights. The sky was almost completely dark; up among heavy rain clouds hung a thin, curved moon, it’s feeble light barely enough to light the young wizard’s nose-tip. It brightened his mood as much as it darkened the corridors of Hogwarts castle; there were enchanted torches, of course – eternal fire – but their flames were dimmed for the night rest. The werewolf however did not mind the dark, as he felt acquainted to it; it did not scare him nor disorientate him. More than anything, he was lost in thoughts this lonely patrol night.
They were worried thoughts, most of the time. His mind wandered along the problems concerning this war which seemed to just slip from the Ministry’s grasp; then it skipped to his friends, to Sirius’ family issues, and to his younger brother Regulus. Yes, Remus was quite good at thinking over other people’s problems, at being sympathetic and think of a way to help them. His own problems alone seemed to be impossible to be solved by himself. Well, one certainly was; his friends had done everything to improve the situation as well as possible, already, and he was grateful to no extend. But it would never be solved to the extend of what you could call a full recovery. And now there were others, new ones. Moony knew that if he wanted to do well in health and school, he would have to stop thinking about his father’s situation, but it felt like giving up too easily.
These troubled thoughts caused his mind to take a different path from his body as it seemed; he no longer paid attention to where he was going. Being a Marauder, it was a given that he would never be lost, even if he did not really watch his steps; there was no need to be carefull.
A sound caught Remus off-guard, and he almost jumped. It was but a sniff, a constricted draw of breath... it could easily have been a ghost, but Moony’s rather sharp senses told him it was definitely a human sound. There was a stretching silence, then something seemed to slip down a wall. And more heavily drawn breaths, hoarse.. somebody was up in the Owlery, and something was quite wrong, too. Wearing a small frown, the Gryffindor prefect gripped his wand and soundlessly ascended the spiral stairs. The brisk air made his hair stand on end on the bare forearms; those owls who were resting were prancing and turning their proud heads away from the cold.
He saw the heap of clothes and a lot of wavy, brown hair at once. She was shaking pitifully; it was heartbreaking. Upon a second gaze, Remus realized who she was.
"Alexia?", he asked carefully, his voice not as badly hoarse as usual. Kneeling down in front of her, he was unsure of what to do; he knew Alexia Davies since more than six years, and they were on friendly terms, but he doubted that they would call each other friends. If it hadn't been for Lily, they probably would have talked even less, simply because they did not seem to have a lot in common. But there and then, she needed help; so much was obvious, even if her face was hidden. A letter dangled by her side, sprayed with some tears. Moony was searching his cloak pockets for chocolate subconsciously, for letters barely ever meant good news these days.
