CATHERINE THERESE
BENNETT(( An owl scans the room ))
(( And screeches as it zooms ))
name; Catherine Therese Bennett. She was named in honor of her late grandmother, who played a significant role in Catherine's upbringing. Her middle name, Therese, is of Greek origin and means late summer; a suitable match to the girl's shockingly red hair and sunny smile.
nicknames; Close friends and family have taken to addressing her by such monikers as 'Scarlett' and 'Caty', though it's all in good fun and she doesn't pay it enough mind to protest.
age & birthday; Seventeen years old, born November 14th, 1959.
school year; Seventh year.
school house; Ravenclaw, unless staff deem otherwise.
sexual preference; Heterosexual.[/blockquote]

wand; Rosewood, ten inches, dragon heartstring. It's a second-hand wand, although it serves its purpose astonishingly well.
blood status; Pureblood.
patronus; Catherine's Patronus - when incanted - resembles a sleek female antelope with pricked ears. In order to summon it, she simply recalls the moment in which she first fell in love. The sensation at the time was overwhelming and provides enough power to be able to call upon the charm with ease. Unfortunately it also requires a great deal of concentration as she often becomes flustered and embarrassed when she forces herself to remember the intimate details of the relationship. This is why it can sometimes prove to be short-lived or appear not entirely corporeal. Her Professors assume she simply hasn't mastered the skill yet, and she allows them that belief to avoid the humiliation of revealing exactly why she has so much trouble.
boggart; On the other hand, when confronted with a Boggart, Catherine has discovered that it shifts into the image of a wide, undisturbed lake to reflect her greatest fear ... that which is primarily of drowning. When she was a youngster, likely around the age of eight years old, she wandered off while her mother was enchanting the laundry so that it would dry more quickly after the wash. Only a few minutes into her exploration, she came across a small creek and decided to venture closer and attempt to jump across. Instead, she slipped on a patch of mossy rock and fell in. Unable to swim, she found herself inhaling water instead of air and began to panic. Fortunately her mother had noticed in time that she was missing and rescued her daughter from her predicament. Since then, she has been careful to avoid rivers, lakes and oceans as often as she is able and to this day has no idea how to swim.
mirror of erised; To someday run her own business in Hogsmeade - more specifically a stationary shop - and eventually raise a family of her own. She glows at the idea of being called 'mum' and tending to a small vegetable garden. Of course she hasn't really admitted as much to her friends, lest they torment her about it until the day of her graduation. She also wouldn't mind travelling a bit first before settling down, and has a keen interest in Dragonology which she has, in the past, seriously considered pursuing.
amortenia; A man's cologne, clean linen and freshly-picked strawberries.
veritaserum; She's secretly obsessed with Quidditch, but only because the players on her self-proclaimed "favourite team" are all inordinately handsome. Catherine doesn't actually know very much about the technicalities of the game, she just leads others to believe she does. She also has a mild interest in the arcane arts, although some would classify it as dabbling in black magic. She has never intended to learn it, just to study its origins and how it came to be. Of course that's not something you reveal openly in this day and age.
magical background; more detail if you’re pure blood or half blood, what they know, how they reacted to their Hogwarts letter, all that jazz.

likes;
CHRISTMAS - It has always been a favourite holiday of the Bennett's. Her aunt Demelza bakes the most fantastic pies and charms the filling so that it turns red and green to suit the season. Catherine herself is responsible for the decorations while her younger and far more rambunctious sisters run wildly around the sitting room, trying to wrap one another in coloured paper and ribbons. It's just a very joyful time of the year when she and her distant relatives can come together and celebrate all of their accomplishments and good fortune.
A CRACKLING FIRE - Especially when she's curled up in front one with a good book. It's when she feels most relaxed, having spent many evenings during the winter season falling asleep in her favourite armchair by the hearth. Several family portraits line the mantle of the one at her parent's home, along with various trinkets that she and mother collected during family vacations; pretty seashells, a jar of gemstones, sweet smelling potpourri. It's just a nice, warm and welcoming place to be. She'd be the first to admit though, that the sofas in the Ravenclaw common room are much softer.
DRAGONS - Something her mother isn't particularly thrilled her daughter has taken such an interest in. Catherine considers these highly magical creatures to be incredibly fascinating, awed by their enormous power and size. She's studied several myths and legends that have incorporated dragons and has even gone so far to to plan a trip in the future to Romania, where they are rumored to be plentiful. She's also disgusted by the abuse they suffer at the hands of Witches and Wizards for the sake of sport and hopes to someday establish some kind of organization to reclaim respect for this rare and elusive species.
CASUAL FLIRTING - It's no secret that Catherine a romantic at heart, and she thoroughly enjoys male attention. Not so much that she purposely seeks it out, but enough that her heart goes all aflutter when a handsome boy casts her a smile, or offers to help her with her homework. Funnily enough, she is constantly daydreaming about someone sweeping her off of her feet one day and will even draw up a mental image of what she thinks he might look like. Stranger still is that she absolutely despises Valentine's Day, and has been known to hide in her room the entirety of the day so that she doesn't have to be reminded of the fact that she is still single, or of the love that she experienced so briefly.
OLD PHOTOALBUMS - Mostly because it reminds her of the fond memories she shared with her grandmother, Winnifred. Without a doubt, the older woman was the one person Catherine came to respect more than anyone and always relied on her guidance and advice. Flipping through the albums they put together when Catherine was young keeps the memory of her grandmother alive and so it's nice to reflect on the past every once in awhile when she's feeling particularly down or alone.
COLLECTING - Most notably various quills, pens, ink and types of parchment. One would be surprised by the variety each is available in. In fact, if Catherine's dream of studying Dragons fails, she intends to open up a shop and sell quality school supplies for Hogwarts students at the most reasonable prices. She feels she would enjoy catering to kids her age once she's a bit older, as though she's paying homage to her school even after she's graduated.
dislikes;
POTIONS AND ARITHMANCY - Widely considered the 'science and maths' of the many subjects Hogwarts offers, it's understandable that the majority of the school's populace both dislikes and actively avoids the both of them. While Catherine would never skip a lesson intentionally, she has often fantasized about blowing both of these classes off on numerous occasions. They're just too dry for her liking, and the Professors hardly do very much to improve the dreary substance of the material.
MOST SLYTHERINS - While she isn't one to generalize or judge someone based on House politics and blood purity, in Catherine's personal experience, she has met very few students belonging to the Slytherin House that she has liked, or who liked her in return. She makes a valiant effort to be polite with them but for all intents and purposes they still act cold, aloof and unresponsive towards her attempts at kindness. Of course there are some qualities that Slytherin and Ravenclaw both share, so she supposes they get along far better in comparison to the other two at least.
THE THESTRALS - Yes, she will concede that the concept of them is interesting, but these dark creatures she cannot see have always unnerved her. And when she discovers that someone within the group can see them, it just makes her feel absolutely awful for the individual in question. They present themselves as a bad omen of sorts, and so Catherine dreads the carriage rides up to the castle at the start of every year. They're most certainly high on the list of things that spook her, including ghosts, giants and goblins.
REPORTERS - From what she has observed, most journalists in the wizarding world are only concerned with earning themselves a promotion and scoring the next big scandal. They have no consideration for the feelings of the victims of their stories or how their faulty, accusatory articles affect them and their families. Now, she might have a personal vendetta against reporters since her least favourite uncle works as one for the Quibbler and she knows first-hand how nasty a man he can be. Not to mention that their smiles and kindness are sickeningly fake.
BEING IN THE SPOTLIGHT - If nothing else, Catherine absolutely hates having everyone's attention focused entirely on her. She has a severe case of stage fright, and will go weak in the knees if she feels that her every move is being evaluated. It becomes such a problem that she suffers mild anxiety attacks. Her heart races, she starts to shake and breathing begins to grow increasingly difficult. Raising her hand in class isn't a big enough deal to warrant this kind of reaction of course, but if you asked her to stand up in front of the student body and deliver a speech ... she'd likely go white has a ghost.
PETTY GOSSIP - Lastly, she despises when girls sink to such a low level that they feel it necessary to spread nasty rumors about someone else out of jealousy or spite. At their age, one might think they'd have matured enough to get over themselves and move on. It's not worth the effort or the aggravation, especially when such behaviour results in physical altercations. No one wins in the end. It's just a pointless and exhausting process that frustrates Catherine to no end.

roleplaying sample;Evonne Wright didn’t often feel flustered or anxious. In fact, she was normally the image of cool confidence and composure. However sitting in the Minister of Magic’s office after knowingly committing a rule-breaking infraction would be enough to put anyone on edge.
Hired by the Head of the MLE department only a few months previous meant that the young redhead was still on probation and could very well have had her position terminated without question. Fortunately, the right strings had been pulled by the right people, and she’d – albeit reluctantly – been spared. Someone had told her in passing that the Minister himself had a hand in her reprieve, so was that why she was sitting there in his office? What could he possibly have to say to her now? Unless he was expecting an elaborate ‘thank-you’ in the form of some exuberant grovelling.
Well, that certainly wasn’t going to happen.
It wasn’t as though she’d asked for his charity after all. What sort of rumours would begin to circulate once everyone discovered she’d been coddled and sent on her way, like a small child no one took very seriously. The thought alone caused her to flush a bright pink in embarrassment, hands fidgeting in her lap as she waited uncomfortably for the sound of the door opening. Even the sound of hurried footsteps outside the door was enough to have her breath catch in her chest.
It surprised her, how quickly she’d dissolved into a mindless wreck. Evonne wasn’t used to feeling so powerless and normally had an impressive arsenal of reassurances and justifications for her actions – as unconventional as they were. This time however, she wasn’t overly familiar with her surroundings, the exact protocol, or the person in charge that she would be speaking with. He was the Minister of Magic, and obviously – to some degree - a forgiving individual. But that was all she’d gathered on Nikolaus Shindler.
Strange. That name sounded familiar, beyond where she’d seen it in the press.
Casting her eyes in the direction of the large, polished desk in front of her; Evonne strove to turn her attention away from the stressful situation she was in and immediately noticed a display of papers fanned out beneath an ornate paperweight. It didn’t help relax her nerves however, as they proved to be her own personal record, biography and a report on the incident that she’d just been involved with. Most of it sounded fairly accurate, although cold and overly professional. In fact it almost sounded harsh, but she could only read a few sentences from where she was sitting and was not about to brave standing up and chancing the Minister coming in to see her rifling through his things.
Instead she recounted everything quietly in her head.
Mr. and Mrs. Toulson had recently lost their son, Christopher Toulson, in an unfortunate accident. He’d returned to his bachelor apartment after a long trip and that half of building was lost in a major explosion triggered by something in his room. She’d been assigned the task of accompanying a higher ranking Auror to see what they could find amongst the wreckage, but were not to question the Touslons so soon after their loss. Their privacy was not to breached. Their job alone had been to investigate the scene of Christopher’s death. However, the individual she’d been teamed up with was older and uninterested in the case. Where Evonne saw possible dark magical interference and murder, he saw only an accident … an ‘unfortunate natural mishap’ and eventually dismissed it as such before reassuring her there was nothing they could do and they should leave the parents in peace.
She had not been satisfied with that conclusion and – acting on her impatient, impulsive self – had gone to investigate further. She’d questioned the owner of Christopher’s building, scourged through the wreckage and even went so far as to approach the Toulson’s themselves. But before should could go any further, the head of her department intervened and ordered her back to the Ministry to await the consequences she’d need to face after breaching the agreement she’d initially made upon taking on the case.
And that’s when she’d ended up in the one office she’d wished to avoid at all costs.
Merlin help her.
