Why had Emmeline Vance decided to climb, and stumble, all the way to the top of the North Tower? Because she wanted to spend some time alone. Just herself and her thoughts up here. Which was why she had picked the North Tower, it was out of the way and, typically, no one would just wander up here, like they did in many places other than this one. No, they wouldn't come up here, it took too much effort on their part. Unless they were following her. But she wasn't paranoid, so that wasn't very high on her list of 'Reasons that someone might find me on the top of the North Tower.' Of course, the majority of her reasons weren't plausible in the slightest manner. No, there were more of amusing stories that she, basically, just told herself to reason with herself and to make herself laugh. But she was, most definitely not paranoid.
Emmeline approached the side of the tower tentatively, not wanting to accidentally go flying over the edge of the tower. No, that would not be ideal. She would much rather keep her footing here. Emmeline wasn't suicidal, but, rather, overly cautious.
Emmeline smiled radiantly as she leaned cautiously on one of the bars that surrounded the radius of the tower to keep anyone from falling over the edge. She watched her fellow students scurrying around on the ground, about the size of ants. It was amazing. Really. The distance that made everyone seem so much smaller than they actually were. Like some sort of optical illusion. Although it made absolute sense, of course. It was still the type of thing that she enjoyed noticing. As well as trying to determine whether or not she could recognize anyone that was down in the courtyard that the tower was overlooking. Of course, she typically couldn't. Sometimes, she got lucky and recognize some of her friends, or classmates, but it was typically too difficult for her to recognize anyone.
But it was just relaxing to sit up here, alone, in the silence of the North Tower, in her solitary. It was a refreshing thing. Something that she didn't get to have all that often. There were always at least a few people around her, even if they were silent. She still enjoyed being alone. It was like a special little treat for a young child. It was tranquil. And something that she enjoyed to enjoy on occasion.
