No chance no way I won’t say it no noAt least out loud I won’t say I’m in love Lily sat at the edge of the lake with a huge book about Charms. Usually a book like that would have had her completely interested with her attention completely on it, but every time she began reading the first sentence in the book, she got extremely distracted and couldn’t focus on the words on the page. In fact, it was so bad that she didn’t want to focus, she didn’t want to think about it. A few times she’d closed the book and just sighed thinking and looking out into the lake.
The thing distracting her? Well that was a big chunk of confusion. She was thinking about a certain boy. A certain boy who’d never ever caught her attention until this year, well in the way she was thinking of him right now. In fact the only way she’d ever thought about him was how much she hated him. And since summer, she felt weirdly different about him. Weirdly different as in she’d started thinking about his muscled arms, handsome smile, messy hair. She’d been thinking about how much he seemed to have changed. She couldn’t help but feel like this! And it was strange. She’d never ever thought she’d fall for him.
No, she hadn’t fallen for him. She didn’t like him at all. She would never like him. He was James Potter, asshole of Hogwarts, arrogant bastard of the world. He was horrible. He was cruel. He was a bully. Lily didn’t like him. There was no way. Groaning she opened the book and tried to read the words again. “The normal witch or wizard is easily confused by the simplest and most useful charms that are found in…”
Lily looked up from the book not even finishing the first sentence. It wasn’t sinking in, it was boring her. Lily never ever got bored with school work and yet she couldn’t get herself to focus on the book. It just wasn’t happening. Groaning again she sighed and set her book down. What the hell was wrong with her? She had never crushed on anyone. And now she was crushing on someone she’d hated for years. Sighing slightly she groaned and picked her book back up and hit herself in the head with it. How the hell was this happening? She couldn’t be falling for someone like him. She just couldn’t. For years and years she’d hated this guy, and now she had fuzzy feelings for him that she didn’t understand. It was embarrassing because she didn’t understand it, and it was even more embarrassing because she’d started sounding weird around him. Not stuttering crazy weird, but she babbled a lot, and talked about a lot of stuff. Weird stuff, like how she enjoyed the Slug Club and things like that. She probably sounded like an idiot, and some how it didn’t matter to her. Somehow, she didn’t care. It was all just one big fun thing. And right now it was giving her butterflies. Frowning slightly she tried to shake the feeling off. It wasn’t right. She shouldn’t have these feelings. She didn’t have these feelings. It wasn’t real. She didn’t love James Potter. Alexia hated the silence. She could not seem to stand or sit still for more than a minute which led her to pacing the dormitory room, waiting for anyone to come in. Actually, not just anyone. She’d prefer that it was Lily who would arrive. It was only with her that Alexia had gotten along with for the past six years. The other seventh year Gryffindor girls, not so much. She had her reasons, though. Mary? Simple. It was like an unspoken dislike for each other that needed no further explanation. All Lexie could remember was that it seemed to have started from the moment she realized that she liked Sirius… for real. Which was a confusing thing for her, since she hated, despised, the Marauders.
But it hadn’t always been like that. In fact, she had gone out with one James Potter way back in third year. They lasted for less than a month, but they really didn’t take each other seriously then. But ever since the boy had gone after Lily, asking her out every second of every day, Alexia became annoyed at him on Lily’s behalf. Couldn’t he see that Lily absolutely didn’t want anything to do with him? Surely no one could be that dense, what with Lily telling him straight-out that she didn’t like him.
Helen… the girl was very close friends with James and really didn’t get along with Lily and Lexie. That was enough to ensure silent nights when it was only Helen and Lexie in their dorm room. It was like Lily and Lexie, Mary and Helen. If only it was possible to request to be moved to a different bedroom, she wouldn’t have given it a second thought and brought Lily along with her. As for the rest of the Marauders, she tried her best to get along with Remus, since the boy was whom Lily was closest to in the Marauders. But as much as possible, she didn’t want to get in their way.
Lexie’s gaze floated towards the windows, looking out to the Hogwarts grounds. She saw Lily sitting by the lake, alone. At this, she grabbed her wand which was on her bedside table and bolted out the door. She was in such a hurry that she really wasn’t paying attention to where she was going which led to her running into, of all people, James Potter.
“Uh, hi Lex,” he said as soon as he regained his balance. “Watch where you’re going, Potter,” she snapped and ran past him, leaving him in a confused daze as he stared after her. She had to get to Lily, it was already a good few days since they last sat down and talked seriously. Maybe this was the time. At first glance, you wouldn’t believe that these two were the closest of friends. They had completely different personalities. But it was their mutual dislike for the Gryffindor foursome – the Marauders – that brought them together.
She couldn’t forget the day when she heard Lily complain about James Potter, Lexie couldn’t agree more. She just hated them, she never even thought about why. But did that really matter?
“Hey, Lil,” she greeted her, sitting carefully beside her. “You seem troubled, hun. What’s the problem?”

No chance no way I won’t say it no noAt least out loud I won’t say I’m in love Lily looked up and saw her friend sitting next to her, closing her book she smiled at Lex and shrugged. “I’m fine.”
It was a lie, and a rather obvious lie at that. Lily could lie when she wanted to, but more often than not she didn’t like to. Pushing her hair back she sighed, wondering what it would be like to feel James’s hand lightly go through her hair. NO! She couldn’t think about this! It wasn’t right. She didn’t like James Potter, she didn’t like his stupid hair, or his stupid quidditch player arms or his stupid smile or the stupid way he looked. Pressing her lips together she hid a giggle at the thought of James Potter. She couldn’t stop thinking about him and it was driving her nuts. Super crazy nuts. Sighing she looked back up at Lex. She hoped it wasn’t that obvious what she was doing, but she also didn’t like hiding things from her best friend. It was true that Lily and Alexia weren’t exactly the most obvious fit. In fact, Lily didn’t know how they were as close as they were. The two of them seemed to gel well, but in some way, they probably shouldn’t have. It didn’t really matter to Lily though, they were best friends and Lily would probably risk her life for Lexie if she had to. Lily was very close to Alexia, especially since she wasn’t as close to the other girls in Gryffindor. Alexia were pushed together sort of, and she’d been there in Lily’s darkest times, in her worst moments. There had never been secrets between the two that Lily knew about, they’d always been extremely close. In truth, Alexia was the sister Lily had lost when she found out she was a witch. Now things were better just because Alexia was there when Lily needed her, and the way it could swap too. And now, there seemed to be something that Lily was afraid to tell her best friend, she couldn’t tell Lexie that she Lily Evans, who’d practically promised to hate James Potter for all eternity, was now developing a crush on him. Lily didn’t pick up her book again, just kept it on her lap and looked at the cover. Faded leather, worn at the edges, the parchment very yellow and old and thick. Any other day Lily wouldn’t be able to put the book down, she’d read it for hours and hours and wouldn’t get distracted by anything. Now, well now she couldn’t even open the book without feeling distracted. She couldn’t read it, she wanted to, just for fun, but there was no way she could do it. Sighing she looked over at her friend. “Do you think it was stupid? That I said I’d be friends with James I mean, you know, because I said I’d never be friends with him ever until I died?” Lily asked slowly, she wasn’t going to tell Lex that she was beginning to crush on the boy, but she was willing to get her friend’s opinion. “Ugh, now that you brought him up,” Alexa sighed, standing up from beside Lily and sitting down in front of her. “I ran into him on the way here,” she said through gritted teeth. “Literally, ran into him. And he didn’t even apologize! I mean, yeah, I wasn’t looking where I was going. But isn’t it common courtesy to say sorry? He just went, ‘Hi, Lex,’ and I snapped at him then got out of his way.” She took a deep breath, realizing that she had been ranting. It was in this split second pause that she finally comprehended what Lily was saying, and her mouth fell open. “Friends?” she echoed. “Friends? With James Potter?”
She opened her mouth to say something, but she closed it when no word seemed to fit what she wanted to say. Shaking her head in disbelief, she reached out and placed a hand on either of her shoulders. “Are you serious? The James Potter?” She took the book that was laying closed on Lily’s lap and examined it closely, as if daring it to reveal any magical properties it possessed. “Is this some kind of hypnotizing book, Lil?” Lexie then held the book in both of her hands, staring at it unwaveringly.
“Lily Sarah Evans,” she said, her gaze returning to her best friend, her eyes were almost pleading. “You told James Potter that you’d be friends with him?” Alexia saw the seventh year boy in the Gryffindor common room on a daily basis. If what Lily was saying was true, that she agreed to be friends with him, then it was no wonder that the Head Boy looked like there was nothing that could spoil his day. He didn’t even get the least bit annoyed when Lexie bumped into him earlier. She should have known then that there was something up.
If Lily and James were friends, then that would mean that Alexia and James would be seeing more of each other than in the usual passing-bys. And it wasn’t something that Lexie was too thrilled about. What if Lily found out that she went out with him before and didn’t tell her? Hopefully, it wouldn’t affect their friendship; Lexie dating the guy Lily despised for quite a few years. But if Lily really, truly despised James, why would she even think of the possibility of being friends with that arrogant git?
“No, hun,” she said, getting over her initial shock. “It’s not stupid. But… why?” Did James do something to Lily over the summer that when they both arrived for their seventh year, they didn’t seem as agitated at each other compared to their previous years, where Lily seemed like she didn’t even want to be on the same train as him?
Even as Lexie tried to keep her thoughts on James, they kept drifting off to his best friend, Sirius Black. At first, Lex thought that Sirius would be just another one of her many prospects, but she couldn’t even bring herself to talk to him, let alone flirt with him or even ask him out. It was the first time she got weak-kneed at thinking of a guy; a handsome guy, at that. A dreamy sigh escaped her lips before she could stop it, she only hoped that if Lily did notice it, she wouldn’t think that it was because she was thinking of James.

No chance no way I won’t say it no noAt least out loud I won’t say I’m in love Lily blushed lightly when Alexia started going on about James. The two of them didn’t like James much in the early years, Lex still didn’t like him, and it was only up to the Summer that Lily realised she might like him a bit more than she should. After Lex’s mini rant, she blushed more when she realised what Lily had said about James. “Yes friends with James Potter.”
Lily said blushing more. “It’s not that weird!” Lily said when she asked the James Potter. When Lex took the book, Lily sighed and shook her head. “It’s a charms book, not a hypnosis book.” Lily said as she grabbed the book back and lay it on her lap, dusting off the dust that wasn’t there as she looked out at the lake. “Why is it so weird to think that I’m friends with James Potter?” She asked him curiously. Then Lexia used Lily’s full name and Lily sighed. “Well he suggested it, so I agreed, we shook on it.” Lily said slowly not looking up at Alexia. “So yes, I said that I’d be friends with him. It’s nothing big, I mean it’s just friends. Friend doesn’t even mean good friends, it could mean…okay friends or mutual friends or…” Lily paused trying to think of something then sighed. “It’s just being friends with someone! It isn’t like it’s anything huge!” The words she was saying, she couldn’t help but wonder if she was saying this to reassure herself of her friend. Sighing she pushed her hair back. “I mean, we’re Head Boy and Head Girl, and he told me this…okay maybe he told me this after we said we’d be friends, but it’s making stuff like patrolling with him a lot easier knowing that we won’t jump down each others throats every time we’re talking.” She said in a rather rambly tone. She hoped that Lexie wouldn’t catch on to Lily liking James. But it was hard for them to hide secrets from each other, or it was in the first six years of Hogwarts. When Lex asked why, Lily sighed. “I just…I want to give him a chance so that I don’t hate people when I leave school. And I think…since he’s been trying to be more than enemies for a while…I thought I should try to at least be nice to him. I mean we could be pretty good friends.” Lily said slowly as she looked at Lex. “I mean, he can’t be that bad can he? I only didn’t like him because of how he spoke and acted towards Sev…” Catching herself before she said it she paused a second and took a breath. “Snape…and I was stupid to be friends with that one. Maybe I was stupid to be enemies with James.” She said showing that it had completely changed this time, instead of called James, Potter and Snape, Severus, it had almost completely swapped around. She never thought this would happen, but she was happy about it. [/blockquote] Tagged !?! Alexia!Wearing !?! this!Lyrics !?! I won’t say I’m in Love from HerculesNotes !?! “Tell me you’re joking, Lil,” she tried to laugh, but was only half successful. “You can’t be. I mean, You swore you would never be friends with him? I thought we hated him.” Lexie felt as if the fact that she didn’t find James hateful anymore was something disturbing that she couldn’t easily get over. Their dislike for the Gryffindor seventh year was one of the things she and Lily had in common. And if they lost that, then there would be one less of the things she and Lily shared. Lexie hoped that this new discovery wouldn’t affect her friendship with Lily.
“I didn’t say anything about being weird,” she said thoughtfully. “I was thinking more of… absurd., impossible. You know, something along those lines.” Alexia leaned forward and propped her elbows up, then rested her chin on her hands, staring at Lily intently. “April first isn’t for another seven months… so there’s no way you’ll be shouting ‘April Fools’ at me.” In Alexia’s opinion, she sounded so defensive. Lexie wasn’t thinking about them being more than friends, but Lily really wanted to make it a point that they would only be okay friends.
“Figures,” she said, leaning back. “Of course he’d suggest it. He’s been chasing you for years, Lil! He’d give anything just to be close to you.” She knew James, oh yes. She knew how he treated girls, she knew how he’d do anything just to get what he wanted. He had his ways to make everyone say yes, she knew only too well. Yes, there’d have to come the time when she’d admit to Lily that she went out with James before, and hoped that she’d forgive her for not telling her earlier. Lexie’s excuse? Lily might get mad that she went out with her mortal enemy.
“Next thing I know, you’re jumping down more than his throat,” she mumbled to herself. “Probably his mouth.” It slipped out before she could stop herself. Lexie always had this problem; she had a slow reaction time, making her say things she’d rather keep inside her mind had she been given a choice. But it seemed that her mind and mouth weren’t in tune with each other, this earned her more than a few enemies. She hoped Lily didn’t hear what she just said. If she did, Alexia expected an indignant reaction. Surely, Lily didn’t like James that way?
But they weren’t mortal enemies anymore, apparently. “But I can’t stand him, Lily,” she groaned softly. It was true. Lex’s limit was seeing him from a distance, but actually having to talk to him? She’d do it for Lily, but only if times really deemed them necessary. “It was different with Sev,” she reasoned. “You were friends before Hogwarts, he was your best friend.” Truth be told, Lexie was okay with Severus. She understood him on his hatred of James, but she really couldn’t forgive him for calling Lily a mudblood. And for hanging around Mulciber and Avery. When they stopped talking, Lexie felt that it was only right to ignore Snape, too.
“Wait,” she said loudly, sitting up straight. “When did you agree on this?” She thought back, her mind finding a night when Lily had told her about meeting James and speaking to her. “You haven’t been alone with each other ever since you got back, except for patrols of course, or I would have heard about it." Did they meet before term started??

No chance no way I won’t say it no noAt least out loud I won’t say I’m in love Lily sighed and pushed her hair back when Lex tried to make her say she was joking. “I said I’d be friends with him. It’s nothing huge or anything. It’s not like we said we’d team up and start fighting crime in matching super hero outfits or anything.”
Looking out to the lake water she couldn’t help but feel like that it wasn’t just friends. Sure she said it was just friends, and she’d said it to James too, but there was something there that wasn’t there before, something that Lily had begun to feel for James that she wouldn’t even tell Lexie. Lex was her best friend, but if she knew that Lily was crushing on James, properly feeling jealous whenever James spoke to any other girl, the way Lily had never felt before…she couldn’t tell Lexie that. Lex would probably think Lily had gone crazy. Maybe Lily had gone crazy. “How is it impossible that I decided to give someone a chance Lexie? I mean…he’s stopped asking me out, I have nothing to do with Sev, which was the reason that I didn’t like James in the first place, so why can’t I just give him a chance? I mean, I don’t want to graduate from this place always hating him, I should give everyone a chance. It’s not fair if I don’t.” Lily began to realise she wasn’t just saying this for Lexie to understand, but to make sure she thought it too. She was more reassuring herself that she was doing the right thing. When Lexie said about the April Fools thing, Lily raised an eyebrow. “Lex. How many times have I ever done an April Fools joke in the time that you have known me?” “Oh come on Lex, I’m not that stupid. You think that me being friends with him is going to make me like him like that? I’m not going to let him use me like that. You know me better than that Lex.” But in her mind, she had to wonder if being with James would be that bad. James had seemed to calm down a lot, and that day in Diagon Alley…he’d been so nice. They’d had a complete conversation, a nice one at that. It had been fine, something Lily hadn’t expected. But there was all of these feelings that Lily didn’t understand. All of these happy bubbly feelings inside her that seemed to make her want to giggle and dance around like a complete idiot just at looking at him. Lily had only ever had a celebrity crush, and even with that it wasn’t a big crush because she always knew she couldn’t ever properly go out with a celebrity. But now…now this was with someone who obviously had liked her for a long time. And Lily’s reaction to this? She was too damn scared to do anything about it. She couldn’t go out with him or anything because she knew as soon as she did that he’d have this smug idea about it, plus what if James Potter only wanted her because she was the only damn girl in the school who’d ever refused him? Well besides Lexie. Lily didn’t want to just be used then thrown to the side like a quill. Lily blushed bright red when Lexie said about the mouth thing, but couldn’t find the words to say anything. She tried to say something but it just came out as stupid squeaking noises that made no sense at all. Breathing deeply, she started to go from red to pink. When Lexie said about Severus, Lily sighed. God she hated everything to do with Severus now. Not because she hated him, but because she hated the stupid bloody mess that had happened between them. She was too damn stubborn to forgive and forget, and he’d called her something that she hated. Sighing slightly, Lily shrugged. “I don’t think it is. I mean come on Lex, I don’t think I’d even hate James if it weren’t for Severus. And I’m just giving him a chance. If he hasn’t changed, and he does something stupid and stuff again, I’ll just go back to hating him. It might only be a week friendship or something.” Lily blushed again when Lexie asked her when she agreed on this. “Well…we met up in Diagon Alley by accident just before school started. We ended up talking for quite a while and said we’d try to get along with each other. That’s how I found out he was Head Boy and stuff.” Lily said slowly. Okay this wasn’t going to go well because Lily hadn’t told Lexie this, but she hoped that her friend wouldn’t take it too badly. [/blockquote] Tagged !?! Alexia reached out and plucked a blade of grass from the ground, trying to find the logic in Lily’s reason to be friends with James. She twirled the leaf around her finger before answering. “Fight crime in super hero outfits?” was all Lexie could say, her mind still blank. “Really, Lil? You can’t think of a better comparison?” It wasn’t exactly a witty comeback, but what did you expect? She had hated James Potter alongside Lily for six years, and this was supposed to be the seventh year. And after this year, they’d never hear from him again. That was how their lives was supposed to go! She definitely didn’t expect this twist in the story she had planned out.
“Just because he’s a guy, Lil,” she reasoned, not making that much sense anymore. “They’re all the same, they can’t be trusted.” Now it was Lex who had the wrong logic. But no one could really blame her, not after you’ve known what she had gone through as a child. Her father was cheating on her mother with a different girl. It went on for so long that Lex herself lost her trust in the whole male population. “An April Fools joke? Never,” she said after thinking about it for half a minute. “Which makes me wonder if this is the time you’d like to start. Since, well, you are friends with James Potter now.” Lily was probably used to Lex’s tactlessness by now, they’d been friends ever since. If she didn’t have Lily, she didn’t have anyone.
Which suited her perfectly, of course. She didn’t really like surrounding herself with too many people. Lily was enough for her, she knew all her secrets. Every single one of them. How her mother was working three times as hard as before just to get them to finish school. How she’d probably be financially supporting her sister through her remaining three years. How her father had not even raised a finger to know where they were when they sneaked out on him one night.
Lily’s next statement wrenched her out of her troubled thoughts and back to reality. “But you can never tell with those blokes,” she muttered, her hatred for her father clouding her better judgment. What would happen if Lily did grow to like James? She’d find out that she and James went out in fourth year… She’d get mad because Lex didn’t tell her. And she wouldn’t take it if Lily got mad at her. Which was why she had to do everything she could to stop the impending friendship and/or possibly romance.
Lex got on her knees, her hands propped up on the ground, when she heard that Lily and James had indeed met up over the summer. “You met in Diagon Alley???” Lex scoffed internally, the guy must have been stalking Lily and went up to her when the girl was alone. “I can understand you talking about Head Girl and Boy stuff, it’s a professional relationship. But being friends with him is personal. But you talked to him in Diagon Alley and you didn’t tell me?”

No chance no way I won’t say it no noAt least out loud I won’t say I’m in love Lily sighed and drummed her fingers against the book on her lap. When Lexie said about the super hero outfits, Lily rolled her eyes. “You know what I mean, Lex. I’m not going to go and become super awesome mega good friends with him over night just because I said I’d be friends with him.” She said never looking at her friend. “It has nothing to do with dating or anything like that.” Lily mumbled half hoping her friend wouldn’t hear it.
When Alexia said about guys, Lily smiled sympathetically. Lily knew Lex’s problems with guys, she could completely understand them too. But she didn’t have the same views at Lexie. “Well, if I get a boyfriend, and if he messes me over, you can tell me I told you so, and then you can go beat the living daylights out of him, how does that sound?” Lily asked calmly. And then when Lex said about the James Potter thing Lily rolled her eyes. “Oh for goodness sake, you really think that just because I’m going to be friends with him I’m going to abandon what I believe, what I think, and what I know and become a trouble maker like him? Hello, I’m Head Girl, and I’m Lily Evans, the girl who threw up all over the desk in third year in Defence Against the Dark Arts, and still refused to leave in case I missed anything important in the class! And being friends with James Potter, or liking him in any way will not change that.” Lily said. Lily was extremely against jokes and stupidity. No matter who she hung out with she’d always reprimand them in some way if it had to do with being stupid. But Lily hadn’t realised what she’d said at the end, which could have led her friend to realise Lily’s little crush, even though Lily didn’t believe it herself just yet.
When Lexie said about not trusting guys Lily sighed. “Well…if he does anything weird or shady, I’ll tell you straight away, and I mean it’s not like I’m going to go out with him or anything, I’m just being friends with him.” Then Lily raised an eyebrow. “Wait…you would tell me if you’re worried that he’s going to become a better friend than you right? Because you know that won’t happen. I’m sorry but you’re stuck with me until one of us dies.”
Lily nodded. “Yeah, he was in the ice cream parlour, I walked in not knowing he was there…bought and ice cream, and since we were both there alone…we hung out…and talked.” Lily smiled lightly. It had been a good time to talk to him, better than she’d ever thought it would be with James Potter. Then a pang of guilt hit Lily like a ton of bricks when Lexie said about not telling her. “Well…I forgot? I’m sorry, I just didn’t think it was that interesting! Or that it mattered. It just slipped my mind with everything and all of that. Don’t hate me?”

“I never said anything about dating him,” Lex looked at her, eyes widening slightly. Surely, Lily wasn’t thinking of finally saying yes to the Head Boy’s endless pleas? Not after turning him down for the majority of their Hogwarts years. Not now that they’re leaving after a few months and they probably won’t see each other ever again after this. Her eyes narrowed suspiciously at her best friend, wanting to question her about the sudden interest in becoming more than acquaintances with James Potter, but decided against it.
Alexia shot her a satisfied smile. “I’ll be happy to. Nothing sounds better than saying, ‘I told you so,’ and getting permission to beat up a guy who hurts my best friend.” Listening to Lily, Lex remembered something that was bothering her ever since their Welcoming Feast. “That reminds me, how on Earth did James Potter become Head Boy?” From what she knew about the so-called ‘Marauders,’ they were a group of troublemakers. Except for one. How Lex and Remus became friends, even she couldn’t answer that. But ever since the other night that she was found by the Gryffindor prefect crying on the Owlery floor, they had been keeping a constant correspondence with each other. No one knew that countless letters were sent from one to the other; the letters were stowed under her bed inside a box. She didn’t know why, but she wanted to keep it a secret for now. Lex subconsciously chewed on her lower lip – a sure sign that she was thinking deeply about something – as she thought about telling Lily.
She pulled herself out of her train of thought in time to catch Lily’s last words. ‘Liking him in any way will not change that.’ Two times. Lily mentioned something about liking James two times. But Lex didn’t bring too much attention to it, she might have just been exaggerating when she said it. “Now that you’re both Heads, he might rub off on you,” she laughed softly, only half-joking. But it would be a nightmare, Lex could imagine, when Lily started acting even the tiniest bit like James.
Three times! First, dating him. Second, liking him. Third, going out with him. Lexie grew suspicious, anyone in her place would. “I doubt you’ll find someone better than me to be your friend, Lily,” she laughed. She wasn’t being overconfident, it was just who she was. Lily would know that it was just a joke, but others might not. So she stuck with one friend over the years, one who understood her perfectly.
“Of course I won’t hate you,” she said, not quite meeting her eyes. Lily already confessed to something she wasn’t able to tell her immediately after it happened. When would she admit to Lily that she was drawing close to becoming good friends with one Remus Lupin? He did say that he was close to Lily, and she wondered how she’d take this little piece of news. She fidgeted guiltily. “It’s okay, really,” she looked up at her, exercising the skill of hiding her emotions well that she had been practicing for so many years.
Thinking of James only made her feel a bit more guilty that after almost three years, she still hadn’t told Lily that she and James went out before. Lexie didn’t think she’d mind, but there was still this small voice inside her head telling her that it wasn’t the right time for Lily to know that she had been in a month-long relationship with the guy whom she hated. Or liked? It was confusing, so she decided to ask her directly.
“Do you like him?”

No chance no way I won’t say it no noAt least out loud I won’t say I’m in love Lily blushed slightly when she realised that Lex had picked up on the dating comment, turning away she didn’t look at her friend. She was being stupid and not being careful of what she was saying. Mentally scolding herself, she decided that she had to start working harder to keep her crush a secret crush. She felt bad for hiding it from Lexie, but at the same time, she didn’t want Lex to feel like her friend was crazy or anything.
Smiling over slightly to Lex she nodded. “Thought you’d like that. I’ll point you in the right direction and you go beat him to the ground.” Lily joked lightly as she twisted a strand of her hair and laughed slightly at the thought. Then when Lex said about him being Head Boy, Lily shrugged. “Only one person knows that and that’s Dumbledore. James doesn’t even know, he thinks it was a mistake I think.” Lily shrugged again. She didn’t know, but in a way, she was kinda happy that he was the Head Boy, now he was, she’d be able to spend time with him that didn’t show anyone that she was sort of crushing on him. If anyone knew she’d get teased a lot more than she ever had.
When Lex said about James rubbing off on him, Lily rolled her eyes. “I’m thinking the other way. I mean, he’s stupid, and gets in trouble a lot, I’m the girl who’s never had a detention…now we have to spend time together, I’m hoping I can possibly get him to stop with all of the pranks. I mean, I’m not expecting miracles or anything, but I’m hoping for maybe a small change.” Lily would be excited to see if he changed at all, but in honesty she doubted that he could change in the space of a year, same way that James couldn’t change her in the space of a year.
It was a good thing that Lex didn’t think that they’d stop being friends or anything like that. Lily loved Lex as a friend and they worked well together. Lily could deal with the way Lex acted, and Lex could deal with Lily’s ridiculous thirst for knowledge. It was something they had both found out when they realised that they weren’t exactly good at getting on with the other girls in their dorm. Pushing her hair back, Lily grinned. “Besides, might go back to hating him by the time the week is out.” It wouldn’t happen, and Lily knew that, she just wanted to make sure Lex knew that she wasn’t trying to get away from Lex.
Lily smiled happily when Lex said she wouldn’t hate her for not telling her about how she’d bumped into James in Diagon Alley. Pushing her hair back slightly, she felt a lot of relief telling Lex. She’d been nervous that her friend would be mad at the fact Lily hadn’t told her. Since stopping being friends with Snape, Lily really relied on Lex, and felt extremely bad when she didn’t tell her something straight away.
A blush came to Lily’s face when Lex asked if she liked him. For a couple of speechless moments, Lily just opened and closed her mouth a few times before coughing to get rid of the speechlessness. She had to get better at hiding her crushes. “No! I don’t like him! Of course not! Don’t be stupid, just because I’m giving him a chance to be my friend does not me that I like him or love him or anything like that. Just means I’m giving him a chance to be a friend!” Lily lied, unable to look her friend in the eye.

Lex decided not to question her more when she noticed that Lily ignored her statement about dating Potter. ‘She’s not the only one who’s avoiding things,’ said a small voice inside her head. ‘I’ve got nothing to hide,’ she thought to herself. But why was she feeling guilty?
Whatever she was doing, would it be considered lying? Nothing was too special about she and the Marauder being friends, but for some reason, Lex felt uneasy both on not telling Lily about it and with letting her know. There was nothing wrong with their friendship that should give Lex the reason to keep it a secret from her best friend. Alexia was lying by omission. But, she could see, it was the easiest way out. If Lily ever found out and asked her why she never told her, Lex could easily say that she never asked. It was a pathetic excuse, but that was enough for her to hold on to for now. She took a deep breath and pushed the thought to the very back of her mind.
“I can think of other ways to punish whoever that guy may be that doesn’t involve me beating him up,” she smiled, eager for a change of topic to steer her mind away from other things. “Public humiliation,” she said in a low, mock-sinister voice. “He’ll regret picking to hurt the girl who had me as a best friend,” she laughed. “But then again, I don’t think I have to do anything more to him after you’re done with him. You know how you are when you get mad.”
“Mistake, huh?” she paused for a few seconds, thinking for a bit. “I’m ready to bet that Potter’s parents might be friends with our dear Headmaster… And lover boy managed to convince Dumbledore to make him Head Boy and this is all part of his plan of getting close to you.” It was possible, no matter how far-fetched it sounded to anyone who heard them. With the Marauders, you never knew what to expect; Lex knew that much from six years of being in the same house as them.
“Wait,” she sat up straight, looking at her. “You’re on a first-name basis now?” Lex believed her when she said that she didn’t like him in any way, but it was still a bit amusing – though Lex would never tell Lily – to hear what she had to say whenever she teased her about him. There were times in the past years that Lexie would just mention Potter’s name and ask Lily when she was planning to schedule their date in Hogsmeade just to see how she would react to it.
Lex doubted that Lily would be able to trigger a change in James, but she didn’t say it out loud. Remus couldn’t even do it, did Lily have a chance? She shook herself mentally, annoyed that she always found a reason to have him involved in her thoughts, no matter how hard she tried not to think of him. “Ah, I’ll be looking forward to this change,” she smiled. “I just hope it’s for the better, Lily.”
“This means I won’t be able to come to you and tell you how much I hate that jerk,” she joked. “But I hope it’s alright with you that when you’re with him, I won’t be there. I just can’t stand him,” she reasoned. The truth was she was avoiding him. The less contact they had, the less possibility that Lily would ever find out of their brief fourth year relationship. They never spoke to each other after that, aside from the glances one shot the other in corridors, or in the common room. Maybe Lily would have noticed, but Lex could pass it off as ignoring James because Lily hated him.
Alexia laughed at Lily’s response. “No need to get all defensive, Lil,” she chuckled. “I was just messing with you. And you giving him a chance to be your friend? Might as well just accept his invitation to go out,” she added quietly, sneaking a glance at Lily to see if she heard her last statement. What could have happened over the summer that Lily decided to give him a chance? Could it be possible that he had changed somehow?

No chance no way I won’t say it no noAt least out loud I won’t say I’m in love Lily watched her friend and grinned as she spoke of everything. “Public humiliation? And what would that entail?” Lily asked grinning curiously. Pushing her hair back she stretched her fingers. Rolling her eyes slightly she looked back at Lexie. “I’m not that bad when I get mad. I mean, I never properly hurt someone… well properly anyway.” Lily said a grin continuing. Looking out into the water she rested her chin on her arms. “Do you think he would? Hurt me I mean.” Lily asked curiously.
A frown appeared on her face when Lex said about James convincing Dumbledore. Shaking her head she looked over at Lex. “I don’t think he’d do that. I genuinely think that the responsibility will near kill him. Even the thought of it seemed to scare him when we were talking about it.” Lily said as she sighed. “I do think maybe Dumbledore did it to give the staff a bit of peace though. I mean, our fights did get…loud…” Lily said blushing. She sighed and shook her head. “Anyway, I don’t think James would have the brains to do it.”
Another blush came to her face when she said about the first name basis thing. “Yeah. We decided that we were going to be civil to each other, and that starts with first names…so now I’m Lily, he’s James, and we’re friends. Did you think we’d call each other Potter and Evans if we were friends?” Lily asked slowly, not being able to look her in the eye. She could tell that Lex wasn’t exactly happy about Lily’s new found friendship with James. Not that Lily could entirely blame her, Lily had sworn never to become a friend of James’.
Okay it was a long shot, but Lily could try. “Yeah well don’t expect an over night change. Heck don’t expect much of a change at all…as long as he just stops some of the things, like asking me out and taking some form of responsibility.” She said pushing her hair back again. Nervous habits were hard to shift.
Lily smiled slightly. “Lex you can rant about who ever you like, you’re my best friend, and even if you don’t like someone I’m friends with you know I’ll listen to you. Besides…part of me thinks by the time the week is out I’ll be back to hating him with more hateful fiery pain than before.” Lily said and then nodded slightly when Lex said about the leaving the room, Lily nodded. “Sounds fair, I guess. Just don’t leave me every time please? I do still want to talk to you and be friends with you you know?” Lily said slowly as she watched Lexie. “You never told me why you hated him so much.” Lily said curiously as she tilted her head to the side.
A blush rose to her cheeks and she hid her face from her friend. “I don’t like him.” Lily said slowly, breathing in deeply as she closed her eyes. “And I’m not going to go out with him.” Lily said as she heard Lex’s quiet remark. “Look, I just want to be nice to him alright? I want to give him some kind of chance to be a friend, to just see if he’s a good enough friend. I don’t want to go through Hogwarts holding some stupid grudge against him that probably had nothing to do with me. It’s nothing big, I mean it’s just a crush.” Lily mumbled not even realising she’d said it as she tossed a rock ungracefully into the lake.

She merely nodded when Lily talked about James getting the responsibility that came with the Head Boy position. Alexia didn’t even want to imagine what would become of the school should Potter get everyone up to the same things the Marauders were usually up to. Well, three-fourths of the Marauders, anyway. Or maybe just half.
“But I can still refer to him as Potter, right?” she grinned, a mock-innocent look upon her face. “I guess this means even if I don’t get along with him, you and I are still okay.” Oh, Lily needn’t worry about Lex getting disappointed if she ever expected a change. Because the thing was, Lex wasn’t really expecting anything. Things would be back to the way they were in a few days, she was only worried that maybe Lily’s feelings would change in the course of that few days.
Alexia looked everywhere except at Lily. Guilt was slowly overcoming her. She listed them mentally; there were now two things she wasn’t telling her. The fact that she dated James for a month back in fourth year, and that she was in close correspondence with one Remus Lupin. One of these days, she knew, she had to tell her. But not just yet. There was something telling her that she wanted to keep the latter part to herself, even for just a few months more. “I don’t… hate him, exactly,” she said, choosing her words carefully. “I just don’t… like him.”
Her head snapped up so quickly she was surprised it didn’t hurt. “A crush?!” She tuned out all she said before that and focused on the last word. “I heard that! There’s no way you can deny it now.” She looked back at Lily, giving her the chance to explain before saying everything that was on her mind.

No chance no way I won’t say it no noAt least out loud I won’t say I’m in love Lily sighed slightly and shook her head. “Yes, you can still refer to him as Potter, as long as you’re fine with me referring to him as James.”
Lily said as she pulled at her hair, wondering if she should cut it or not. She’d wanted to for a while, but she’d never been brave enough to. She smiled at Lex and shook her head. “We better be alright, I dunno if I’d be able to get through the year if you decided you didn’t want to be friends with me any more.” Lily pouted in a joking way then shook her head dropping the book onto the grass next to her. She could see that Lex was trying to look away from her now, but Lily didn’t know why, not that she’d press her into telling. Lily wouldn’t have done that, but she was curious as to what Lex was thinking. Pressing her lips together, she smiled lightly. “You seem like you hate him.” Lily said slowly as she shrugged. “Well…actually I used to hate him so maybe I was just showing my hate for him and putting it into you as if you were hating him too.” Lily frowned as she spoke, she knew that she was now rambling like crazy. When Lex looked up at her and said about the crush, Lily’s eyes went wide and her hand went over her mouth. “Shit! Shit, shit shit shit shit! I didn’t mean that! I didn’t say that you’re hearing things.” Lily said, blushing bright red and looking away feeling embarrassed. She wasn’t ready to fully admit that she had a crush just yet. She didn’t want people to realise that she really did like him. Embarrassed she looked over horrified at Lex. “Please please please don’t tell anyone! I’d properly die if people found out.” Lily said in a quiet meek voice. [/blockquote] Tagged !?! Alexia!Wearing !?! this!Lyrics !?!
